Finding Neverland

By Stephanie Terry

Finding Neverland is a great mix of Music, Dance and Acting. It presents a grownup spin on a children’s classic and it was great to learn the story of how it all began.

The story line had a mix of humor, sadness and fantasy. The show portrayed moments of pure joy and also moments of sadness. The story line was so true to life that at times you felt as though you were are part of their lives. We laughed and cried. It isn’t often you leave a play feeling inspired to be a better person. Finding Neverland does just that. The overall story taught us that although we are adults and have many life struggles you are never too old to DREAM.

Roger Daltrey Comes to Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood

After wrapping up a South American Tour Roger Daltrey appeared at The Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood, with a myriad of vintage “Who” tunes and some new tunes he is about to release on his own.

The English singer, musician and songwriter and founding member of The Who, was personable, warm and appreciative of the crowd at the Hard Rock Live. The vintage “Who” tunes that are unforgettable were performed for the excited audience.

He also mentioned that his new compositions were so new that he actually had lyric sheets on the stage floor in case he forgot the words.

All in all he was the consummate Rock Star, and even at 73 he has not lost his voice nor his love for the music.

Current Band members: Simon Townshend (Guitar, Mandolin, Backing Vocals), Loren Gold (Keyboards, Backing Vocals), Frank Simes (Musical Director, keyboards, backing vocals & assorted instruments), John Corey (Keyboards, Backing Vocals), Jon Button (Bass), Scott Devours (Drums).

Santana’s Transmorgrify Tour Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood

Amazingly powerful and still intensely primal, Santana’s band performed for almost 2.5 hours with no pause between sets.

One of the heights of the performance was Cindy Blackman Santana doing a 10 + minute solo on drums. High energy and heart pounding rhythm emanated from her set. She received a well deserved standing ovation when she hit the drums for that last beat of the set.

All the band members exuded an intense high energy that pulled the sold out crowd in. It was a concert for the ages. Band members Andy Vargas (vocals), Pioli Mejias (percussion), Karl Perazzo (percussion), Ray Greene (Vocals), Cindy Blackman Santana (drummer), Benny Rietveld (bass), Tommy Anthony (guitar and vocals), David K.Mathes (keyboards), Tony Lindsay (vocals).

Australian Pink Floyd Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood

The closest I am ever going to get to experiencing the “real” Pink Floyd is Australian Pink Floyd. The band has spent a long time getting to this level; the years have been invested in getting things right: the sound, the feel, the experience.  And it was so close to the real thing it wasn’t hard to imagine experiencing the band and original group members. But kudos to Mike Kidson (saxophone), Jason Sawford (keyboards), Paul Bonney (drums), Steve Mac (guitar, vocals), David Domminney Fowler (guitar, vocals), Rickey Howard (bass, vocals) and the back up singers.
The show mesmerized including the gigantic blow-up creatures that added to the authenticity of the original band. The sound and light engineers were spot on too! Hard Rock live is a great venue.

Poco, Pure Prarie League and Firefall at The Pompano Beach Amphitheater

By Adriana Naylor (Opulence Senior Art Director of Creative Services)

The band has successfully preformed and recorded 40 years of great country-rock music. One of the first and longest-lasting country-rock groups, Poco had their roots in the dying embers of Buffalo Springfield. After Neil Young and Stephen Stills, the co-founders of that group, exited in the spring of 1968, only guitarist/singer Richie Furay and bassist Jim Messina remained to complete the group’s swan song, Last Time Around. Performimg was Rusty Young guitarist, vocalist and songwriter and pedal steel guitar. In 2016 drummer Lawrence was replaced by Rick Lonow (formerly of The Flying Burrito Brothers.  Jack Sundrud guitar, bass, vocals (1985-1987, 1990-1991, 2000-present) Michael Webb keyboards, guitars, accordion, vocals (2010–present) Rick Lonow In 2016 drummer Lawrence was replaced by Rick Lonow (formerly of The Flying Burrito Brothers. www.poconut.org

Pure Prairie League
Country-rock band began in 1970, whose most well-known hit is “Amie”goes back to 1969 in the Southern Ohio area where a group of young musicians initially played cover tunes at local bars. Their songs became well known; “Amie” (Craig Fuller’s ode to an on-again/off-again relationship), from the second album, became a particular favorite. Lead guitar is Craig Fuller. Other members also on the guitar include Curtis Wright, Gary Burr, Mike Hamilton and Jack Sundrud on the base guitar. The last two members of the band include Fats Kaplin (accordion) and Al Garth.

Excerpt from a local 10 website below:
Pure Prairie League and Firefall put on very strong shows in a country rock triple header at the Pompano Beach Theater. The bands hit on all the notes , all the songs you look for in a show like this. Some great guitar work from Firefall’s Jock Bartley and overall excellent musicianship playing tunes like You Are The Woman , Just Remember I Love You and several others. PPL was even stronger with a fiery set with some incredible pedal steel and guitar licks rocking the crowd . Great to see original steeler John Call still in action along with Mike Reilly , two of the most influetial members in PPL’s history. Donnie Clark was awesome on guitar ! Amie of course received the largest response from the crowd all night. Superb vocals from PPL as did Firefall as these guys made this night a great one. Unfortunately Poco came out with an extremely flat , lackluster set. I’d much prefer a PPL and Firefall show and have PPL close it, they deserve far more time on stage.

Currently touring with three original members (Jock Bartley, David Muse, Mark Andes), longtime drummer Sandy Ficca and talented newcomer Gary Jones, Firefall continues to make great music for a loyal following, adding new fans at each show. The band’s biggest hit, “You Are the Woman” had the crowd dancing in the aisles. Great performance !

Steve Miller Band with Peter Frampton at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood

By Adriana Naylor (Opulence Senior Art Director of Creative Services)

Originally from San Fransisco the Steve Miller Band’s bluesy rock sound has been a mainstay of rock music for over 45 years. On July 17 they appeared at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood along with rock legend Peter Frampton. Both delivered their own style of classic rock accompanied by great guitar riffs and stellar back up from each of the bands. Steve Miller was accompanied by band members Kenny Lee Lewis on bass, Gordy Knudtson on drums, Joseph Wooten on keyboards and Jacob Petersen on rhythm guitar. Some of the band’s hottest hits performed was “Space Cowboy”, “Fly Like An Eagle” and “Take The Money And Run”.  Additionally Miller and Frampton offered the fans a treat and played two tunes together– “Mercury Blues”, and “Stranger Blues”.

Grammy award winning Peter Frampton started in London in the late 60s sometimes solo and other times as a session artist. He started off the show with a new tune “I Saved A Bird Today“ that did not disappoint. As with great wine Frampton’s guitar playing is smooth and bluesy as ever. Peter was backed by his band Dan Wojciechowski (drums), Rob Arthur (keys, guitar, vocals), David Labruyere (bass) and Adam Lester (guitar). Songs played were “Do You Feel Like I Do,” “Show Me The Way” and more.  So glad I was lucky enough to experience the great music at the rocking venue that is The Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood, FL.

Boston’s “The Hyper Space Tour” has officially launched at Seminole Hard Rock Live-Hollywood!

By Adriana Naylor (Opulence Senior Art Director of Creative Services)

Electrifying is the only word that describes Boston at the Hard Rock Live- Hollyood on April 17, 2017.

Boston was as fresh and tight a band as ever. The special effects were spectacular and only heightened the experience!

Read on for a little bit of Boston trivia.

One of the founding band members Tom Sholz (guitar, vocals, keyboard, songwriter, arranger and self-taught audio engineer) never came up for air. What a talent! Gary Pihl (lead guitar, electric and acoustic 12-string guitar, keyboards and vocals) Pihl’s first big break in came in 1977, when he joined Sammy Hagar’s band, where he toured and recorded for 8 years. Gary met Tom Scholz when Hagar was opening for BOSTON between ’77 and ’79. In 1985 Tom asked Gary to help him finish a song for an album (Third Stage). Gary recalled æI would have crawled on my hands and knees from California to get to work with BOSTON.” He is still with the band. Tommy DeCarlo  (Vocals and keyboard) Tommy first began listening to Boston as a teenager and loved to sing along with Brad Delp original lead vocal for Boston. Delp committed suicide on March 9, 2007. Scholz contacted Tommy and invited him to come and sing a few songs at a tribute show. He has been with them ever since. His voice is so similar to Brad Delp’s its eerie. Tracy Ferrie, from Elkhart, Indiana, Tracy attended the Berklee School of Music for several years, during which he started playing with local bands in clubs, as well as doing a fair share of session work. Tom says, “It’s most excellent to hear the bass lines that I recorded played note for note. He has a great touch, and a contagious energy on stage.” Curly Smith (drummer, harmonica, piano) born in the Big Sky country of Montana, but raised in Arkansas. Best known for his work with the rock band “Boston”, where he played drums, harmonica, piano, sang vocal’s, and composed songs. Drummers are the backbone of successful bands and Smith’s strong rythmic energy was no exception. He was clearly engaged and brought the band home. Beth Cohen, a Long Island, NY native, Beth Cohen grew up in a house filled with music. Plays piano, flute and electric guitar. But her strong contribution to the band is her singing prowess. Scholz says, “She’s the best studio singer that I’ve ever worked with.”

They have been able to sustain the energy and intensity from the early days of the band. A feat not easy to pull off but Boston has.

Charlie Daniels & Marshall Tucker Band at The Pompano Beach Amphitheater

By Adriana Naylor (Opulence Senior Art Director of Creative Services)

Saturday March 18th-  Pompano Amphitheater featured the great Marshall Tucker Band lead by lead vocalist and longtime member Doug Gray, put on a great show and displayed the great and diverse musical talent that has been a constant with the band for over 40 years. Current members include the highly respected drummer B.B. Borden, a former member of both Mother’s Finest and The Outlaws, multi instrumentalist Marcus Henderson of Macon, Georgia, plays flute, saxophone and keyboards in addition to lead and background vocals, Pat Elwood on bass guitar, and Rick Willis on lead guitar and vocals, both of Spartanburg SC. They performed one of the two best known songs, “Fire in The Mountain” and “Can’t You See”, among others. That great Southern Rock genre is alive and well.

After the great experience of Marshall Tucker Band came the headliner The Charlie Daniels Band.

Photo: Generated by IJG JPEG Library

Charlie Daniels, the legend, the patriot and the consummate musician performed on Saturday night at the Pompano Amphitheater (The Amp), along with his tight group of musicians, and vocalists. He performed past favorites and some new tunes. But all the while brought to the forefront his intense love for the U.S.A. and the military that are on the frontline protecting the freedoms that we enjoy and sometimes take for granted. As always he gave the audience a stellar performance with his fiddle prowess and guitar excellence (Gibson Les Paul).

If you are a fan of Southern Rock you would not have been disappointed.

Eddie Money and Starship at The Pompano Beach Amphitheater

By Adriana Naylor

Eddie Money

On Saturday January 24th, Eddie Money performed at the Pompano Beach Amphitheater. The show was energizing at a great music listening venue. Eddie Money the singer, songwriter, musician and all around entertainer rounded out the show that began with Starship lead by original band member Mickey Thomas. The passion in Eddie Money is still evident, after 30 years of performing his iconic tunes like “Baby Hold On”, Two Tickets to Paradise”, “Think I’m in love” among others.

Starship band with original Jefferson Airplane band member Mickey Thomas

Mickey Thomas and Starship were electrifying with a harder edge than previously. The iconic tunes “Sara“ and “White Rabbit“ transcend the test of time. Listening to Stephanie Calvert sing vocals on White Rabbit especially was like being in a time machine that took you back to 1969 and the infamous Woodstock Music Festival.

The evening at the Pompano Beach Amphitheater had great vibes and is an experience one should not miss.

ZZ Top at the Hard Rock Live-

Left to right: Dusty Hill (bass guitar), Billy Gibbons (guitar) and Frank Beard (drums)

After four decades they truly are iconic and timeless in their bluesy rock and roll sound.
This sturdy American blues-rock trio from Texas consists of Billy Gibbons (guitar), Dusty Hill (bass), and Frank Beard (drums). They were formed in 1970 in and around Houston from rival bands the Moving Sidewalks (Gibbons) and American Blues (Hill and Beard).

One of the few rock & roll groups with its original members still aboard, ZZ Top play music that is always instantly recognizable, eminently powerful, profoundly soulful, and 100 percent American in derivation.

Hard Rock Live at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood is a great venue and offers some of the greatest rock shows in South Florida.

Pet Sounds 50th Anniversary Tour

Wednesday Sept 14, 2016– Hard Rock Live at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino

wilson_147388060411832Inspite of the time passed since the inception of the Beach Boys the genius of Brian Wilson is still evident. He was a musical innovator then and he remains so to this day. Music is just as viable and exciting.

Backed up by a musically talented group of professionals Brian Wilson lets the audience step back in time when the creation of the California sound first was introduced in 60s and 70s.

01-los-angeles-ca-3-21-16-041_wide-4b77167cd379af48f19a521954d03842be9484ad-s800-c85Some of the band includes: Probyn Gregory, (playing horns); Paul Von Mertens (saxophone, harmonica); Bob Lizik (bass), the current roster includes longtime Beach Boys Al Jardine, Blondie Chaplin and Jardine’s son Matt, and keyboard players Gary Griffin and Billy Hinsche. The entire crew is currently on a world tour to celebrate Pet Sounds’ 50th anniversary.

Although his difficult and challenging past is still evident in the person that is now Brian Wilson, on stage the music is the soul of the man and that is wonderfully evident. A legend for all time.

Australian Pink Floyd Band

By Adriana Naylor- Senior Art Director for  Opulence Magazine

Thursday August 25, 2016 – The Australian Pink Floyd is as near to the real thing as anyone is lucky enough to get to. Flawlessly true to the original iconic band. Members include: Steve Mac (Guitar/Vocals); Colin Wilson (Bass/Vocals); David Domminney Fowler (Guitar/Vocals); Ricky Howard (Bass/Vocals); Emily Lynn (Vocals); Jason Sawford (Keyboards); Paul Bonney (Drums); Chris Branes (Vocals); Lara Smiles (Vocals); Mike Kidson (Saxaphone).

022-1024x768The visual light and video presentation including three huge animated blow-up animal creatures added to the very breath of the performance. It was both musically and visually a joy to be at The Hard Rock Hollywood to see this band perform. Normally tribute bands do not get the kudos they deserve mostly because they are not as good as the original band, but this band was the exception.
In fact this band is so good they were even engaged by David Gilmour to perform at his 50th birthday celebration! All in all the high expectations were met and went beyond.

Jason Bonham’s Led Zeppelin Experience

By Adriana Naylor- Senior Art Director for South Florida Opulence Magazine

RMP6434Wednesday June 8, 2016 – What a great concert. The band was tight and the videos of John Bohnham, Jason’s father were both erie and memorable.  Jason Bonham’s Led Zeppelin Experience 2016 line-up is as follows: James Dylan on vocals, Tony Catania on guitar, Dorain Heartsong on bass, Alex Howland on keyboards & guitar and Jason Bonham on drums.

The guitar solos and the singer James Dylan were so intensely into the music it was a deja-vu moment for many Led Zepellin fans. And of course the venue of the Hard Rock Live at Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood always has such a great vibe, the audience was completely involved in the whole “Led Zeppelin Experience” often being encouraged by James Dylan to get involved in the song lyrics .

But for me as a fan of Led Zeppelin, the most incredible moments that gave me chills was when Jason performed alongside his dad (on video) and matched the drum solos beat for beat. Incredible!

Come to the Cabaret Ole Chum & Celebrate Its 50-Year History

By Jana Soeldner Danger

CABARET-Photo-by-Joan-Marcus.When Cabaret comes to the stage at Miami’s Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts April 12-17 (and again January 10, 2017 at the Broward  Center for Performing Arts), it will build on a 50-year history. The hit musical first opened on Broadway in1966 at the Broadhurst Theater with a wildly successful run of 1,165 performances.

It was a time of burgeoning political activism, with sentiment building against the war in Vietnam, and the civil rights and women’s movements growing stronger. Cabaret was perfect for that turbulent era, because although at first glance it may appear to be a romantic story set against a backdrop of memorable music, it also carries an ominous message about the danger of closing your eyes to what is going on in the world around you.

Cabaret is based on a 1939 novel, Goodbye to Berlin, by Christopher Isherwood, and the 1951 play I Am A Camera by John Van Druten. The original Broadway production directed by Hal Prince was an experiment in making a musical in which the message is as important as the plot. Set in 1930s Berlin during the violent rise of Nazism, Cabaret tells the story of the life and loves of flamboyant Sally Bowles, a 19-year-old American who works as a singer at the seedy Kit Kat Club. A raucous ensemble takes the stage there every night to tantalize a crowd trying desperately to lose itself in the decadent allure of Berlin nightlife to get through times that are growing uncertain. Sally falls in love with Brian Roberts, a bisexual Cambridge University student who has come to Berlin to complete his German studies. The two have an affair, but later, they fall under the spell of wealthy Baron Maximilian von Heune, who seduces them both. With the Kit Kat Club serving as a metaphor for the world, the club’s master of ceremonies is the storyteller, and the rise of the Nazis is a dark, ever-present undercurrent.

The production by the award-winning Roundabout Theatre Company comes directly from Broadway. Kelley Shanley, president and CEO of the BCPA, said, “Broadway shows spark the imagination and create lifelong memories. Through our partnership with Broadway Across America, each season boasts at least one regional premiere that offers our audiences the first chance of seeing the latest blockbusters right here.”

The Steve Miller Band

By Adriana Naylor- Senior Art Director for South Florida Opulence Magazine

_SteveMillerBandPhoto-2015The Steve Miller Band performed at the Hard Rock-Hollywood  March 6 and did not disappoint. In between his standards and the crowd favorites he briefly laid down some background as to the band history and his own experiences. It made the Hard Rock Live venue intimate and thoroughly enjoyable. The crowd was into it from the first set and could not get enough. The keyboardist Joseph Wooten performed magic on the keyboard. He along with his band mates,  Kenny Lee Lewis, Gordy Knudtson, Jacob Peterson were at the top of their rock and roll bluesy game. HardRockLive_4cThe Moody Blues 50th Anniversary Tour

By Adriana Naylor- Senior Art Director for South Florida Opulence Magazine

March 3, 2016 The Moody Blues 50th Anniversary Tour at the Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood. Drummer Graeme Edge will turn 75 this year but is still as energetic and vibrant as ever. “It’s the 50th anniversary of ‘Days of Future Passed,’” he said, as any Moodies fan knows, is the 1967 album, recorded with an orchestra, that signaled the band’s change of stylistic direction. It was the band’s second album and its first concept album, and it included “Nights in White Satin” and “Forever Afternoon (Tuesday?),” along with spoken-word pieces written by Edge. The music was melodic and bluesy and crisp. Justin Hayward, John Lodge along with Edge brought us back in time while still pleasing the younger members of the audience. Even after 50 years The Moody Blues still can get the fans up onto their feet. America and Three Dog Night Come to Hard Rock Live on Thursday, November 12

Hollywood, Fla. (June 2, 2015) – Multi-platinum iconic bands America and Three Dog Night come to Hard Rock Live at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino on Thursday, November 12 at 8 p.m.

The year 2015 marks the 45th Anniversary of perennial classic-rock favorite, America. Their best-known tunes, which also include “I Need You,” “Ventura Highway,” “Don’t Cross The River,” “Tin Man,” “Lonely People,” and “Sister Golden Hair” were cornerstones of 1970s Top 40 and FM rock radio.

americaEnjoying massive success early in their career, America earned their stripes as musical soldiers on the battlefield amidst the excess, craziness and chaos of the 70s. The trio won the Grammy® for Best New Artist in 1972 and began working with George Martin and Geoff Emerick in 1974.  This successful team went on to record seven albums and several Top Ten hits, including “Tin Man” and “Sister Golden Hair”.

2015-11-12-Three-Dog-Night-at-Hard-Rock-LiveBoasting chart and sales records that are virtually unmatched in popular music, Three Dog Night had 21 consecutive Top 40 hits, including three No.1 singles, 11 Top 10’s, 18 straight Top 20’s, seven million-selling singles and 12 straight RIAA Certified Gold LPs. Their hits appeared on best-selling charts across all genres including pop, rock and country.

Three Dog Night’s hits wind through the fabric of pop culture today, whether on the radio where they are heard day in and day out, in TV commercials or in major motion pictures — songs like “Mama Told Me (Not To Come),” “Joy to the World,” “Black and White,” “Shambala” and “One” serve to heighten our emotions and crystallize Three Dog Night’s continuing popularity.

The Grammy-nominated band is not content resting on their legacy alone, their releases from this decade have sold more than a million copies and the band’s continued popularity has landed “The Best of Three Dog Night: 20th Century Masters” on the Billboard Top 200 Album Chart for nine of the past 12 months.

Three Dog Night maintains an aggressive, year-round touring schedule of over 70 dates a year. Their well-loved hits, plus some amazing new songs, are performed for audiences spanning generations by founding members Cory Wells and Danny Hutton on lead vocals, as well as original band member and guitarist Michael Allsup. By Adriana Naylor- Senior Art Director for South Florida Opulence Magazine

smokey-robinsonJuly 25, 2015— Smokey Robinson is a class act. His memories of the early Motown days were intertwined with some of the great hits that made that era so special. His prolific songwriting and singing has stood the test of time and his charm and showmanship made the show a memorable one. In addition to his band his backup singers and dancers were an integral part of the whole act.

With Smokey’s encouragement the entire audience knew and sang every word, and note and was not shy about singing along . The Hard Rock was the perfect venue for Smokey Robinson. For information about future events at The Hard Rock, click here.
